Another Tornado Watch
The second Tornado Watch of the day has been issued for Southern Ohio as of 8:50 pm. This one goes until 3 AM. Since 8 PM as many as a dozen Tornado warnings have been issued from suburban Cincinnati and Dayton east into Athens County. So far, I am seeing only reports of funnel clouds, that would be tornado wannabees.
If you live in Southern Ohio, a stormy few hours are ahead. Despite no tornado touchdowns so far, you should respect this pattern as one that may produce high winds, flooding rains and perhaps a brief tornado.
If you live in a mobile home, structural engineering data strongly points to you taking the precaution to leave your home until the threat has passed. Elsewhere, just stay away from windows, off the phone and other electrical equipment.
Tornado Watch This Eve
If you live in Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky or far Western WV, the risk of tornadoes lasted less than 2 hours and fortunately never came to fruition.
This meant for a brief time conditions were favorable for severe thunderstorms and an isolated tornado. Twisters are never assured even in a Tornado Warning like the one that was issued for Lewis County Kentucky until 5:30 PM. 911 folks tell me some trees were felled along Rt 8 near Black Oak but that was it.
Wednesday is hump day as we transition from the damp, warm envoron of early week to the blazing heat wave of this weekend. One more round of showers and thunderstorms will cross in scattered form on Wednesday before the heat builds Thurday thru early next week.
