ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A handful of folks decided to brave the cold weather Saturday in hopes of helping out some local charities.

The Ashland-Boyd County Disc Golf Club hosted the first ever Ice Bowl Tournament.

Frisbee players snow-suited up to play some frisbee golf in freezing temperatures.

Players had the chance to warm up with a hot bowl of chili between rounds, plus they were helping fight hunger in the process.

Richard Arigan says, "it's fun. It's for charity. We're kids having fun,"

Jon Parlier tells WSAZ.com, "people go out hunting in the snow. There are other activities that people go out and do in this weather. This is our activity."

Each player paid $20 and mulligans cost a buck; in addition to that they were asked to donate non-perishable food.

All of the money and food donated will go to local charities to help feed the hungry.

i have been playing disc golf for years! rotary park is a tough course, and i love the ashland courses.. unfortunately due to my overwhelming work schedule (and my own laziness) i havnt been able to play both courses in ashland.. only the one closest to the highway.. the courses in lexington are a lot of fun as well! it is good to see disc golf finally getting some notariety.. (hope i spelled that right)

It's not about getting on the news for them or us disc golfers. Disc Golf is an outdoor sport, therefore we'd rather do it outdoors at any local disc golf course. We actually play disc golf pretty much year-round, even over the winter...unlike ball-golf. It may be cold, but it's an afterthought once you've warmed up and are having fun!
