Tony's Monday Weather Briefing

Monday Weather Update
In the wake of Sunday night’s storms, a seam of drier air has been slurped into the key 5,000 - 7,000 foot air layer. This dry air has put a cap on the atmosphere, much like a lid on a kettle of simmering soup. If left on long enough, that lid/cap would erupt into a spillage of hot scalding soup or in the case of the atmosphere, a cluster of new thunderstorms.

I sense that lid/cap will not blow its lid before sunset so right now no thunderstorms are on radar and none will likely form. As the air cools down after sunset, in effect the burner on the stove will be moved to off allowing the kettle to cease heating.

But a word of caution, some moister air is likely to return to the 5-7K layer by Tuesday-Wednesday, so the risk of new thunderstorms will be increasing based on the “blowing its lid” concept.

By the way, the sunsets are getting more tropical and fiery every night as the summer haze has stolen the blue color for the sky. That’s great news for sky watchers, but bad news for those who suffer from asthma since the air is collecting pollutants day by day.
