Lights, Camera, Action. Hollywood came to Huntington, and so did the stars.
“We Are Marshall” brought stars Matthew McConaughey, Matthew Fox, David Strathairn, Kate Mara, and director McG to the Huntington area for several weeks in April 2006.
While Huntington was gripped with movie excitement, it was also a somber reminder of why Hollywood wanted to tell the story.
The movie focused on the 1970 Marshall Plane crash that killed 75 football players, coaches, administrators, fans and crew.
It begins with the heartbreaking loss to East Carolina just hours before the crash, then how the “Young Thundering Herd” picked up the pieces during the 1971 season and against all odds, won two games -- including a last second thriller against Xavier.
When it was time for the movie to hit the big screen, it was tuxes and evening gowns as the stars returned to Huntington for a Hollywood green carpet world premiere.
