Restaurant owner Bob Evans was first and foremost a farmer and a champion of keeping the small family farm alive.
He opened the Bob Evans Steakhouse in Gallipolis in 1947, and from that beginning grew an empire of thousands of employees and hundreds of restaurants across the nation.
"When I go out of town people thought he was a legend -- that there was no Bob Evans and I said, my gosh, I go to church with the man. He would do anything he could for Gallipolis and has done so much for us," said one customer at the Gallipolis Bob Evans restaurant.
Bob Evans died in 2007. His original homestead is now a museum and home to the annual farm festival that attracts thousands of visitors to his beloved Gallia County.
