Since the end of the civil war, the City of Ironton has honored the men and women who have served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
From 1866 to 2009, the message hasn't changed.
"A lot of people forget and we're here to remind them of that price," said one parade participant.
The parade remembers those who died making the American dream possible, from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan and Iraq.
Ironton's Memorial Day parade is the longest continuously running one in the country --a tri-state tradition, an American tradition.
