On a blustery and snowy late autumn night, Marshall hosted the Toledo Rockets in the inaugural MAC title game in December of 1997.
Looking more like the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field than a college gridiron, that Friday snow bowl instantly became part of Herd football lore. The rockets led 7-3 at half as defense dominated in the harsh conditions.
The snow slackened for the second half as Marshall's offense went to work. Chad Pennington threw three second half touchdowns to Randy Moss, sending the Herd Nation into a frenzy and showcasing Huntington and Marshall on the national ESPN TV spotlight.
It was a party atmosphere late that Friday as Marshall claimed the MAC title.
