Most of the people who watch wsaz have a favorite reporter, weatherman, etc. I think it would be nice if wsaz posted on the website everyone who has left for other jobs. these people are special to all wsaz viewers.

Had a ball working as a director in the late 50s for WSAZ. Worked with Ron Lester (Barefoot), Micky Banga (Aunt Dru) and many others. I remember when Dave Garroway brought his today show to Huntington. What a good time we all had.

Hi all who asked about me! I am practicing law in Wheeling, WV. I work for a national firm based in Chicago..to see more go to www.wtwlaw.com. My daughter is great and living in North Carolina. I keep in touch or keep track of many former WSAZers. It's like a high school class where everywhere you look there is an old (or young) classmate. I truly enjoyed my career at WSAZ and still make contact with people due to that career. My work as an attorney is certainly enhanced by first being a journalist. Keep up the good work with the website.

I know this is a long shot because it was so long ago, but in 56 or 57, my basketball team Van Lear Bankmules Van Lear KY was featured on the Coffee Time show with Dean Sturm, Brownie Benson and Sue Chambers. Dean interviewed our team on the air. Do you think there is a tape of this show in your archives and if so how would I go about getting a copy. Thank you so much.

I remember an animated/anime TV series which aired on WV TV aprox 1971-74, aprox 15-1800LST/LDT. Best I recall, it featured humans in a space war. Don't recall which station it aired on. I remember weird space vehicles and a ship that resembled a WWII battleship. What was the name of the show and is it available on DVD?

Posted by: Linda on Mar 30, 2008 at 12:12 PM
Dear Mr. Huffman, You have been a blessing to thousands of children and adults alike. You taught positive, moral, and spiritual values to everyone who watched. From the, "Roll It," to, "Wave like mad and say bye Cartooners," yours was a wonderful show. I remember Steamboat Bill. But, I seem to remember, The Beachcomber and a lady host at one time? She sat in a rocking chair and wore a bonnet, if my memory serves me correctly. Could you tell me if I am thinking of the right show? And who played the part of Beeper? May God's blessings flow richly for you and yours.

During the 25th. anniversary of WSAZ, they recreated the old Saturday Night Jamboree. It was a one hour show, with many of the original members performing. This program aired only one time. It would be nice to see a rebroadcast of this show if it is still available.

I wonder where Deb Kramer and Scott Coppenbarger are these days? They were a lot of fun to watch back in the 90's in the mornings...I wish WSAZ would post some of her old recipes again like the caramel brownies. Both of these were a joy to watch and had such positive outlooks. Teamed up with Rob (who always makes the morning shows fun), they all seemed to have good chemistry. WSAZ always has the best morning show! My husband and I often laugh out loud at some of their humorous behavior, yet they're always consummate professionals. Anchors come and go...I hope we always get to keep Rob and Melanie! They're as good as a hot cup of coffee to start your morning, and we look forward to the sunrise edition each day. Keep up the excellent work, WSAZ!

Can you tell me what he is doing these days? I would like his email if you can do that, to thank him for attending my workshop. It really was an honor to have him there. Thanks, Loretta

We used to live in the tri state and when my son, was younger, made a funny remark about Glenn Willie. It was about Christmas time and he had been watching Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer earlier in the day, and looked up at Glenn on the TV and said....It's HERBIE!!! Then looked back and me and said...I thought Herbie wanted to be a dentist, not a weather man....lol

where and what ever happened with JOE PALMERI ?

Posted by: Thurston Bland on Dec 21, 2007 at 10:12 PM
I travel a good bit and have seen some of those that people ask about. First, I had seen Hoyle Murphy at the statehouse..he works there. I think I seen old Tim Totten in Baltimore on tv. I dont know about Bob Smith and I think DJ may've passed on. Tom Sharp he is on tv in Athens..never cared for him. Kathy Browne she is in Morgantown with Tom McGee. As for people like Dimehoff and Joseph, they are way too young to be updated on this page. Leave the updates to Bob Smith, Gray, and older people like those. Thank you, I hope this helps.

Thank You for this opportunity! My question is for Jules Huffman, (Mr. Cartoon). I am from Wharton, WV, and have been in the Army for 21 yrs now. I never got to go on your show, but always wanted to!! I have never forgotten the lessons you would teach and reinforce daily. Tha magic words! Please, Thank You, Your Welcome, Excuse Me and the hardest one of all, sometimes to this day, I'm Sorry! You taught respect, belief in a higher power, and manners! This has been a great trip down memory lane! Thank You Sir! Do you think a show for kids with your base of mentorship and religious encouragement could be possible in todays politically correct media world? And if so, are there currently any plans to start another Mr Cartoon-like after school show for kids or possibly the reairing of your original broadcasts? Thanks Again Sir for all you have done for all of us that grew up watching you after school. It was a daily ritual to get off the bus and wait to take a deep breath! God Bless You!!

Did Mr Cartoon ever start out his show driving a car from out of the water?

Posted by: Deb on Oct 29, 2007 at 08:38 PM
I love this trip back in time too. Growing up in "the sticks" we had only one channel and it was 3. I haven't seen anyone mention Della Ryan. I always liked watching her, but my mom thought she was such a classy lady. She always thought Della would end up at the network doing nightly news or something.

Posted by: Anonymous on Oct 28, 2007 at 01:32 PM
Editor's Note: Jim Treacy left a couple months ago to open up his own business in Cabell County. Jennifer Cottrill got married this weekend and is moving to Raleigh, North Carolina. Loren Tobia is still "in development." :) Actually, we plan to make his story part of an upcoming episode of "A Time To Remember" so that is why we are saving it! Keep the questions coming!

Posted by: Scott on Oct 10, 2007 at 10:51 PM
Editor's Note: To answer some of your questions...Unfortunately, we don't have many episodes of Mr. Cartoon on tape. We have some old clips, but not many. The chances of having the 1980 program are slim. The same thing applies to Coffee Time too. Reasons for employees leaving vary widely. Many are for family reasons. Some like to live in different areas of the country to experience different things and move on. And to Hoy -- you're on the list of those we want to catch up with in the future. So, when you find out what happened to yourself, let us know too! :)

Posted by: kay on Oct 10, 2007 at 09:39 AM
I would love to obtain copy of mr.cartoon when my 5th grade class was there in 1980. Is this possible or do old clips even still exist? thanks. much love to mr. cartoon!

I'm glad you're doing this "Where Are They Now". Often we miss the announcement when someone leaves and it's disconcerting to watch someone on a daily basis and then one day they're just gone.

Anyone remember George Lewis? He was Mr Cartoon in the 60's before Jule took over. I remember going to see him with my brother and sister at Button Auditorium in Morehead. All of the kids there received a loaf of Tiger Bread. Wonder where he is now? That has been around 44 years ago. Amazing how little things like this stick in your mind for so many years. I'm sure the time all the kids spent with Jule will be remembered by them as well. Thanks for a lot of memories WSAZ.

I remember watching Jule Huffman since I was a very young girl. I remember watching a morning show in which Jule sang and played the piano. He was so young and handsome then. My question is, why did you stay in Huntington at WSAZ? At that time I thought you were as handsome and talented as any Hollywood entertainer. Did you ever have dreams of making it big nationally?

Posted by: Bob on Aug 10, 2007 at 08:39 AM
Growing up in W.Va the only channel we could get was WSAZ. I'm going way back here with some of these names but...what ever happened to: Farmer Bill Click, D.J. the weather girl, Dean Sturm, the band members from 'Saturday Night Hayride'...a couple of their names were Odie Crabtree and "Bigfoot" Charlie Keaton. I'm sure there are other folks from the station that I'm forgetting. It was nice seeing Jule Huffman and Bos Johnson...they were both around back in the good 'ole days. Thank you for this trip down memory lane and any information on the aforementioned employees from back then would be appreciated.

I suggested Mr. Cartoon 2-3 months ago and no new article. I'm think if you can't get this people to do an interview than you should take that off the website because to me its misleading.

Jared Smalley is now the Sports Director of the Columbus NBC station WCMI channel 4. I remembered when I moved to Central Ohio and I first saw him, I said to myself that guy looks familiar then they said his name. I remember him doing a story when Ohio State was set to play Marshall in football couple of years ago. He mentioned that he was from the Huntington area had mixed feelings about the game. He now has a special sports show on every friday night until football season then he has Football Friday Night covering Central Ohio's high school football which is huge task.

I am so loving the Mr. Cartoon clips. I was never on the show but watched it for as long as I can remember. Is Jule Huffman in the area?

If I'm not mistaken, Debi Thomas was the first female anchor in our area (other than "special interest" hosts like D. J. Schroder). Last I saw any indication of what hapenned to her, she was doing public relations for Qwest Communications in Denver (I saw her read a statement for that company on a news story regarding a strike some years back). Can she be tracked down, and her true role in bringing gender-equality to the local airwaves revealed? By the way, Lois, Tim Sharp is working for Ohio University in Athens, and he occasionally does newscasts on the college's public radio station, WOUB. As you recall, Tim had left WSAZ to run for Congress. And as for Bob Brunner, Scott, he "retired" for a while and lived in the Knoxville area, where he worked parttime for WSAZ's now-sister station, WVLT...but he now is back in West Virginia, news director of a TV station in the Beckley area!

I've been watching TV 3 since the early 1960's. Since it was the clearest broadcast..(Antenae days). Where is Jule Huffman, and what is he doing now? I would love to see a Mr. Cartoon special! Also, what ever happened to Bob Bowen?

Concerning "Boz Johnson", when he did the local news, everyone at my house huddled around the TV. Mr. Johnson always presented himself as a true professional.

I would like to know about Diane Dimoff and Samatha cozsey. Where are they now and what are they doing? I thought they were both wonderful news women.

I would love a follow-up story on Bob Smith. I have noticed him on a few Advantage Toyota commercials. He was a staple on the nightly news for me as a child. I even have a coloring book where I'd write his name when I was learning to read and such. Wondering if he misses doing the nightly news and what he's been up to since retiring.

The question: What is the most memorable news story you covered while at WSAZ? My comment: this trip down memory lane is a hoot! Keep it up!!
