Charles Ryan has built quite a name for himself in the business community of our region. Charles Ryan Associates is a very prominent public relations/marketing firm in Charleston. Yet, Charlie continues to get recognized for something he hasn’t done for 34 years – television! Charles Ryan got his start in the business with WSAZ. He was an anchor and a reporter starting in the 60s.

Ryan left this message for his fans:
“It is a real pleasure for me to once again connect with the WSAZ audience. Although my years in the Channel 3 newsroom were in the 1960s, I truly feel I have always been a member of a unique family of distinguished broadcasters who brought a new medium to the tri-state. My thanks to the WSAZ audience then and now for remembering some great times with one whom so very much appreciates the professionals past and present at one of America’s foremost television stations.”

Bill Blake, editor of the Kanawha Valley Leader, always said Charlie Ryan will go far. Although he didn't always agreed with him he was always proud to say he knew him when he was still wet behind the ears.

Good to see Charles Ryan is still alive and well---he is one of the reasons I have enjoyed a career in Journalism, public relations and now, government. He gave me a break in TV news, which opened up many opportunities and, in my opinion, deserves the good fortune he has worked for since his days at WSAZ and later at WCHS, where he was news director for many of those pioneering days in TV news. He has achieved much for himself and for our wonderful state.

I would love to see each of these Icons of channel 3 make an appearance on your news broadcast. To see Jule Huffman do the weather one more time, or Bos Johnson and Charles Ryan hosting a segment would be great!

Mr. Ryan, I was only a child when you were on the news, but somehow you were a soothing and trusted voice for me. Thank you for that.

I so loved to see these people. Of course, I have been watching WSAZ since the early 60s and do remember all these grand people. I so enjoy this segment. Thanks for featuring them.

Has anyone ever told you that you look a little bit like Joe Lieberman?
