Where Are They Now: Jule Huffman

Jule Huffman, AKA Mr. Cartoon, worked at WSAZ for more than forty years. He joined the television station as a singer and announcer in the days in which WSAZ produced many entertainment programs. He also was the station’s morning weatherman for years. Most people know Jule though for his alter ego Mr. Cartoon. In 1969, Jule took over the role of Mr. Cartoon and performed in this role of afternoon cartoon program host until 1995. He retired that year, but still remains one of the most popular television personalities in our region.

Jule says:
“I really did love my time when I was working at WSAZ. But I want you all to know out there, all the children who were on the show with me, I love you most of all. You made my life something special. God bless you all. Thank you.”

Mr. Cartoon was my favorite show and Jule was so good at pulling it off. I ran home from the school bus stop in the afternoons to get home in time to see the entire show. I will never forget those four magic words- "Please, Thank You, Your'e Welcome, and Excuse Me", and to "always visit the church or synogogue of your choice". Jule, you were such a great infulence on my young life as I grew up in Southern West Virginia, and yes, the bugs bunny cartoons were fabulous and they are still my favorite! I am 44 years old now and there will never be a children's television show that can compare to Mr. Cartoon. God bless you for your great influence.

Dear Mr. Huffman, Thank you for your years of taking time for kids like me, who didn't have much of a role model. Mr. Cartoon was a good and wholesome influence on my life. Of course as I got older I watched your forecast on WSAZ news. When I figured out that Mr. Cartoon was actualy Jule Huffman it was almost like discovering that Batman was realy Bruce Wane. I'm now 50 eyars old and not a day goes by that I don't think of swomething given to me, by you. Again, Thank you!
