Kentucky Senate Democratic primary race: Booker has big lead in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ky (WSAZ) - After a weeklong wait, Kentucky Democrats are preparing for the big finish in the Senate primary race Tuesday.

Just after 11:00 a.m., Kentucky’s Secretary of State Michael Adams released the unofficial results for Jefferson County showing Charles Booker with a big lead in Jefferson County over Amy McGrath.

In that county, Booker has 88,116 votes and McGrath has 52,224 votes.

Just after 9:40 a.m., results also showed Booker with the lead in Fayette County as well with 27,520 votes to McGrath's 24,005. 

The candidate who wins the Democratic nomination will challenge Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in the fall.
