Marshall TBT Team Heading To Columbus Tuesday
"Herd That" To Play July 5th
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It’s now off to the TBT for “Herd That.” The Marshall alumni entry in “The Basketball Tournament” held its’ final practice in West Virginia Monday evening at the South Charleston Community Center. The team heads to Columbus Tuesday where they will continue preparations for their first round game against “Jimmy V” which will be on Sunday July 5th. There’s still no time set for the game.
One thing noticeably missing from previous Marshall entries in the TBT has been height or lack thereof. This year, they added a frontline of two players 6-foot 7 in the form of Jacorey Williams and Chris Cokely and 6-foot 8 Ryan Luther. Stevie Browning said these additions should make a huge difference in 2020. “It opens everything up. The last two years we’ve had a lot of trouble rebounding and guarding in the paint. Now, we fixed that. These guys are talented. They all shoot the ball well, run the floor and make plays. They are all athletes and I’m excited.”
A huge addition is Zach Smith who helped lead Texas Tech to the NCAA Elite 8 in 2018 and he said it’s been pretty easy to acclimate to the Herd style of offense. “You just have to get used to the guys strengths and weaknesses. It’s easy to find team chemistry. It’s just hooping.”
There’s no time yet for “Herd That” against “Jimmy V” this coming Sunday. The winner of The TBT takes home a million dollar prize.
