HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - An individual within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Marshall Health has tested positive for COVID-19.

Marshall Health made the announcement Tuesday.

According to Larry D. Dial, M.D., the chief medical officer for Marshall Health, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Marshall Health, the individual was asymptomatic while around others in the department but later developed symptoms, which lead to the need to test.

Officials say in-depth contact tracing has been conducted and anyone known to be in contact with this individual has been notified and instructed to remain in quarantine for 14 days, and they will also be tested for COVID-19.

The department released a statement saying, “at this time, we do not believe any patients were exposed but continue due diligence to identify anyone this individual came in contact with without wearing proper PPE. We are working with the Cabell-Huntington Health Department to closely monitor this situation as well as health care partners throughout the community to ensure patients receive the care they need.”

Marshall Orthopaedics is still providing patient care through telemedicine. Patients can also safely receive in-person care from their providers that have not been quarantined.
