PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) - A teacher at Belfry Middle School has resigned after a social media post was discovered allegedly showing the teacher in blackface, according to the superintendent.

Pike County Schools Superintendent Reed Adkins confirmed to WSAZ Tuesday that the teacher announced their resignation to the district on June 30, 2020. Adkins said an investigation has been launched.

The post by the teacher, whose name was intentionally omitted pending the outcome of the investigation, depicts the teacher wearing a black substance on their face. Officials say the caption on the photo read “This should get me at least 50% coverage, right?”

Adkins said the district does not tolerate racism from students or staff. Adkins went on to say the district strongly condemns the post.
