WV Power season ends as Minor League Baseball cancelled
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -For the first time since 1901, there will be no minor league baseball this season. With that news, Appalachian Power Park and the West Virginia Power are shuttered for the year.
This stems from Major League Baseball’s decision not to provide players to any affiliated Minor League teams this season.
“We are devastated that we will not have any professional baseball games at Appalachian Power Park this year,” Power Owner and Managing Partner Tim Wilcox said. “Power baseball is a summer tradition for everyone in the Capital City and we wish we could provide that to the Charleston community in 2020. However we are unable to provide a season without players on the field. We are looking forward to welcoming fans to our downtown facility for other socially distant events later this year.”
This marks the first time since the ballpark opened in 2005 that the Power won’t be playing baseball in downtown Charleston.
