SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The city of South Charleston has created a grant program which can give up to $5,000 to small businesses in the area.

During last week’s meeting, the City Council set aside $100,000 to put toward a grant program for small businesses.

Mayor Frank Mullens said the grant is to help small businesses with COVID-related expenses. For example, if a business had to set aside more funds for outdoor dining or personal protective equipment, they could be eligible for a grant.

Each business is eligible for one $5,000 grant.

Mayor Mullens said businesses can pick up applications at City Hall or the municipal building.

So far, a number of businesses have applied for the grant money, but none have been awarded just yet.
