Cats win 3rd straight bowl game
UK beats NC State in Gator Bowl
JACKSONVILLE, Fl. (WSAZ) - In this unusual year where 4-6 Kentucky played in the Gator Bowl, the Cats made the most of the opportunity. UK beat #23 NC State by a final of 23-21 Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville. It’s their third straight bowl win after dropping their previous 4 games and they dominated the rushing game where they amassed 281 yards on the ground. Asim Rose Jr. led the way with 148 yards. Quarterback Terry Wilson threw for 99 yards in the win.
It was a low scoring game with the Wolfpack as Kentucky led 13-0 after the first half. NC State cut it to a 10-7 game in the third quarter when Bailey Hockman threw a 9 yard touchdown to CJ Riley. There was no scoring until past the halfway mark of the 4th quarter when Kentucky connected on a 20 yard field goal from Matt Ruffalo which made it a two possession game. NC State answered with a rushing touchdown by Zonovan Knight which cut the Cats lead to 16-14. The Kentucky defense registered their 3 interception of the day at the 3:02 mark of the 4th quarter. On the very next play, Christian Rodriguez scored his 2nd touchdown of the game on a 26 yard scamper which made the score 23-14.
The Wolfpack weren’t done yet as they scored with less than 1:30 to go in the game to make it 23-21. Kentucky recovered the on-side kick and ran out the clock.
Kentucky ends the year with a 5-6 record while NC State’s 4 game winning streak is snapped.
