Portsmouth Police hires two new officers

PORTSMOUTH, OHIO (WSAZ) - Two new officers were sworn in to serve on the Portsmouth Police Department Monday morning.

A release from Portsmouth PD says that Jesse Kontras and Tyler Spriggs will be joining the force.

Kontras served with the New Boston Police Department, the Lawrence/Scioto Solid Waste District, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Spriggs worked for Jackson County and Ross County Sheriff’s Offices as a corrections officer, as well as being a prison guard and EMT worker for ODRC.

Both officers will now undergo 12 weeks of training int he field.

Portsmouth PD Captain Jason Hedrick said, “The City of Portsmouth is very grateful that both of these highly educated and trained individuals are willing to accept the responsibility of serving the citizens of Portsmouth.”
