HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -When the sun came out and heated the air into the low 80s on Friday, a cozy warm feel to the air took over. Ideal conditions for the summer outdoor concerts and gatherings from 9th street in Huntington, to Broadway Square in Ashland and Main Street in Pikeville. Now heading into the weekend, a surge of early summer heat will arrive.

While mornings will start out in the comfy 60s with patchy dense valley fog, hot summery sunshine will soon take over as highs soar to the 80s by lunchtime on their way to close to 90 by day’s end. At this point, no rain is expected thru the weekend for most, though not too far away from the Breaks Interstate park on the Kentucky-Virginia line a rumble of thunder and shower of rain will occur.

Our risk for rain will increase next week once higher humidity returns to the region. Rising moister levels should put a cap on high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s all next week. Still the overall rain pattern will be scattershot as the haze and humidity of the season take hold.

So grab a sunscreen and enjoy the hot-dry weekend ahead
