Two arrested in crime spree case
SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - Two men were arrested Thursday, accused of being involved in a crime spree in the Wheelersburg area.
Travis Floyd, 25, and Burt Copley, 44, face a long list of charges, including three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman says they’ve been investigating a string of thefts that began in December and continued through February. Items stolen included vehicles, converters, tools, and guns.
The sheriff says the vehicles were stolen in the same fashion and recovered from the same location, and several witnesses said the suspects were seen in the stolen vehicles, or the suspects told them they stole the vehicles.
Thoroughman says around 2 a.m. Thursday, detectives and deputies got a tip one of the suspects was at a home on Cartro Road in Franklin Furnace, and he was detained there without incident. Investigators then learned the second suspect was not far away at another home on Cartro Road, and he was also detained without incident.
Further charges for both men include burglary, breaking and entering, and receiving stolen property.
Floyd appeared Thursday in Portsmouth Municipal Court and is being held on a $115,000 bond.
Copley is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
The sheriff says this is an ongoing investigation that could result in more charges being presented to a Scioto County grand jury.
