CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Freshman Hope Lester had 28 points and 21 rebounds to lead Westside to a 49-46 win over Scott in the girls Class AA championship game Saturday.
Top-seeded Westside (28-0) won in its first trip to the championship game.
State player of the year Makenzie White had 17 points for second-seeded Scott (24-3), which lost in the finals for the third straight year.
The lead changed five times in the fourth quarter. Lester's jumper put Westside ahead 47-46 with 56 seconds left.
Westside's Tori Patrick was fouled with 16 seconds left but missed the first free throw. Westside's Cheyanna Lusk grabbed the loose ball and was fouled. Lusk made both free throws with 10 seconds left for the final margin.
White missed a 3-point attempt in the closing seconds.
