Melanie started her career in radio while attending the University of Florida. She reported for the student radio station, WUFT-FM, and television station, WUFT-TV, and co-anchored the evening newscast. Melanie won a Hearst Journalism award in 1991 and went on to co-anchor the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news and report in the evenings at WABI-TV in Bangor, Maine.

WSAZ's launch of First at Five in 1993 brought Melanie to Huntington, W.Va. She reported daily for First at Five and co-anchored the newscast with Kevin Doran.

Her television career took Melanie to the morning and noon news at WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh in 1996, where she acquired a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and shared a team Emmy for Best Morning Newscast.

She returned to Huntington, her husband's hometown in 2000 after the birth of their first son and joined the WSAZ morning news team. Melanie lives in Huntington with her husband, their now five children (four boys and a girl), and her parents. She has special interest in topics surrounding Autism and Alzheimer's disease, her son and mother have the conditions. She loves to sing, and sew and spend time with her family.
