Amanda Barren anchors First at Five, 5:30 Edition, NewsChannel 3 6 O'Clock, the 10 O'Clock News on the Tri-State's CW, and NewsChannel 3 Tonight.

Amanda Barren rejoined the WSAZ News Team in December of 2012. She co-anchors First at Five, 5:30 Edition, NewsChannel 3 6 O'Clock, the 10 O'Clock News on the Tri-State's CW, and NewsChannel 3 Tonight.

Amanda was born and raised just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, but considers West Virginia her home away from home. In fact it’s where she started her broadcasting career in 2002. Working at WTAP in Parkersburg, she wore just about every hat in the newsroom working as a reporter, anchor, producer, photographer, and she even did weather on the weekends.

From there Amanda went back north to the land of lake-effect snow in Erie, Pennsylvania. At WJET she started as the crime, government & courthouse reporter and then moved on to anchor “Good Morning Erie.”

In 2006 Amanda fulfilled a goal by coming to WSAZ to work. Amanda watched WSAZ while she was working toward her degree at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Impressed by the storytelling and the passion for hard-work that WSAZ put on the air each night, she knew she wanted to be a part of the team. For nearly four-and-a-half years she was a member of the WSAZ Charleston newsroom as a reporter, and on the weekends she worked in Huntington as the anchor of the weekend newscasts.

In 2010 Amanda was able to live out another dream by returning home to work in Cleveland.

At WKYC she was a general assignment reporter for the morning show and anchor of the Noon news. Much like her time in Erie, she braved the lake-effect elements, traveled to London for the 2012 Summer Olympics and to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl. Unfortunately her favorite team, the Cleveland Browns, wasn’t playing but, forever an optimist she plans to go back when they finally do.

In 2012 she returned to WSAZ to anchor “First at Five.” Shortly after that she joined Tim Irr at 5:30, 6 & 11.

Amanda is passionate about serving the community in which she lives. She is a board member of Dress for Success, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Charleston Regional Spay Neuter Center. On the weekends you can generally find her at an event highlighting the compassionate and tireless efforts of non-profit organizations in our region.

She’s interviewed Presidents and celebrities but her favorite stories will always be those with ordinary people facing extraordinary odds, and those who are brave enough to speak out about issues affecting our community.

Amanda knows your ideas make the best stories so send an email to Amanda.Barren@wsaz.com.
