CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The second annual Charleston Main Streets Urbanite Awards were handed out on Wednesday.
The ceremony was held at the Good News Mountaineer Garage.
The awards honor businesses, civic leaders, volunteers, and community members who making a difference in the urban core of Charleston.
Each award has a winner on the city's east end and west side.
They were presented in seven main categories including: Rookie of the Year, The Game Changer, The Urbaneer, and The Urbanite of the Year.
The executive director of Charleston Main Streets says, "It's really important to honor those who work so hard to invest in our business districts and invest in our neighborhoods and communities simply because without them they wouldn't be what they are today."

This year's awards were handed out by the inaugural winners from last year's ceremony.
Charleston Main Streets is an organization that aims to develop the urban areas of Charleston's east end and west side through development, planning and marketing.
