BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (AP) - Police in northern West Virginia say a truck collided with a minivan carrying church youth group members from Pennsylvania, killing three people in the van and injuring five others.
Bridgeport Police Lt. Mike Lemley says the northbound box truck crossed the median and collided with the southbound minivan Friday night.
Media outlets report those killed were identified as church volunteer Rhoda Malone and 17-year-old Breanna Africa, both of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; and 16-year-old Faith Dowler of North Strabane Township, Pennsylvania. Three others in the minivan and two people in the truck were treated at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg.
The minivan was traveling to the Festival of Life, an outreach event in Clarksburg for families that featured music and games.
The accident forced the highway to be closed for eight hours.
