UPDATE | Names released in deadly U.S. 35 crash in Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 5/13/19 @ 1:20 p.m.
Names have been released in a deadly crash that claimed two people's lives Saturday on U.S. 35 near the Buffalo Bridge.

The deadly crash happened Saturday afternoon near the Buffalo Bridge in Putnam County, West Virginia.

According to West Virginia State Police, the two victims are identified as William and Judy Sargent. Troopers say they were the parents of juveniles who were in the vehicle. Those youths are still in the hospital.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing, but troopers believe speed played a role in the crash.

Investigators will be obtaining the black boxes from each car to help with the investigation.

Troopers said they are going to pick up patrols in the area because there are a lot of accidents on that stretch of roadway. On Thursday, there was another accident that sent the driver to the hospital.

UPDATE 5/11/19 @ 5 p.m.
Two adults are dead, and two children were seriously injured after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on U.S. 35 in Putnam County.

Officials on scene tell WSAZ the tractor-trailer and a car collided around 1:30 Saturday afternoon near the Buffalo bridge.

The driver of the tractor-trailer appears to not be injured.

Investigators say it was raining when the crash happened but they are not sure if that is what caused the crash.

No names have been released.

The road is expected to be shut down for several more hours.

Dispatchers say two people are dead after a crash on Route 35 in Putnam County near the Buffalo Bridge area.

Dispatchers say both lanes are shut down. They say they are not sure how long the lanes will be shut down at this time.
