UPDATE | Police release name of man found dead in Kanawha River

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – UPDATE 10/10/19 @ 9 a.m.
Charleston Police have released the name of a man who was found dead in the Kanawha River.

A body was found near the 2800 block of Kanawha Boulevard East in Charleston. Crews are on the bank of the Kanawha River near that location.

Police say the body of John Douglas Mason, 56, of Charleston, was found about Wednesday evening.

His body has been sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy, but no foul play is suspected.



A body was found Wednesday afternoon near the 2800 block of Kanawha Boulevard East, Metro 911 dispatchers say.

It was reported near the Moose Lodge there. Crews later were on the bank of the Kanawha River near Daniel Boone Park

No other details are available at this time. The Charleston Police Department is on the scene, and we also have a crew there.
