CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An American hero is home in Charleston for the holidays.

Lt. Nicki Warner returned to the Kanawha Valley from Afghanistan Tuesday evening. She is a member of the 2-12 Infantry Battalion, 4th Infantry Division.

In addition to her family and friends greeting her at Yeager Airport, members of the Patriot Guard Riders were there to welcome and escort her home.

The Bronze Star recipient has served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and says being home for Christmas this year is extra special.

"Of all things Christmas definitely means the most, time with family and the warmth of a fire, the Christmas carols and great time spent with people that I love. It means very much to be able to get home for the holidays," Warner said.

Warner, 25, is a 2009 graduate of George Washington High School and a 2013 graduate of West Point.
