HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 12/3/19 @ 9 p.m.
A bizarre car crash in Huntington Tuesday evening left people wondering how a car could end up the way it did.

A car traveling on a gravel road missed a turn and crashed through a guardrail onto the 20th Street underpass.

Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial says that the car crashed through a guard rail into the 20th Street underpass. The three occupants fled the scene, and one was detained by the Huntington Police Department.

A gravel road curves behind buildings along 8th Avenue. The car was traveling on that road and missed the curve and crashed through the guardrail into the underpass.

Delmer Kincaid works in a repair shop next to the 20th Street viaduct and has seen plenty mishaps with cars there, but nothing like this.

"I've never seen anything like that," Kincaid said. "I couldn't imagine being in that position to go through that type of fencing and dropping almost a story."
