UPDATE: WVSP releases name of trooper injured in fiery crash

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 10/30/18 @ 12:20 p.m.
West Virginia State Police released the name of a trooper who is in the hospital after a crash Tuesday morning.

Senior Trooper Brian C. McCormick, 30, works for the Mason County WVSP detachment.

The accident happened Tuesday morning around 3:40 a.m. along Route 2 in Ashton. McCormick's cruiser went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers tell WSAZ that someone was driving by and saw the cruiser on fire and was able to pull the trooper out of the cruiser to safety.

There is no word on the trooper's condition at this time.

A West Virginia State Trooper was injured when his cruiser went off the road and hit a tree.

The accident happened Tuesday morning around 3:40 a.m. along Route 2 in Ashton, which is in Mason County.

The trooper was driving along the road when his cruiser went off the road and hit a tree.

Troopers tell WSAZ that someone was driving by and saw the cruiser on fire and was able to pull the trooper out of the cruiser to safety.

The trooper was taken to the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

There is no word on what caused the trooper to crash.

A car crash on Route 2 in Mason County caused a vehicle fire early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters on scene tell us the crash involved a state trooper.

Route 2 is open to all traffic.

The crash happened a little before 4 a.m.

There are no word on injuries or which vehicle caught on fire.
