Charleston Police Officer resigns following battery charge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ)- Charleston Police say one of their newest officers has resigned following a battery charge.

The department says the incident happened while the former officer was off-duty.

Chelsea McCoy was sworn in on June, 7 2018.

According to Charleston Police she was on paid administrative leave while the department investigated the situation.

She later turned herself in to face the battery charge and resigned during the process.

There is no word on what details led to the resignation.
