UPDATE: Name released in fatal pedestrian accident in Charleston

UPDATE 5/26/17 @ 11:15 a.m.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Charleston Police have released the name of a woman who died after being hit by a vehicle.

CPD says Katie Stewart, 34, of Charleston, died Thursday night at the intersection of Leon Sullivan Way and Lee Street East.

According to a release, Stewart was lying in the crosswalk wearing all black clothing.

The driver told police she noticed something dark in the roadway and was unable to get out of the way before hitting the object she described as a dark bag.

When the driver found out a person had been hit, she immediately called 911.

Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the State Medical Examiner's Office.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the truck.

The crash remains under investigation by the Charleston Police Department Crash Investigation Unit.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A woman has been killed after being hit by an vehicle in Charleston.

According to Charleston Police the woman was hit at the intersection of Leon Sullivan Way and Lee Street East around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The intersection is closed at this time. There is no word on when it will reopen.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A downtown intersection in Charleston is closed late Thursday night after a person was hit by a vehicle.

According to Metro 911 dispatchers, it happened at the intersection of Leon Sullivan Way and Lee Street East around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

No other information has been released at this time.
