Cooling stations to open in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Several cooling stations will open in Kanawha County this weekend to help people escape the dangerous heat.

Several cooling stations will open in Kanawha County this weekend to help people escape the dangerous heat.

The Hansford Center in St. Albans will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Ice water will be available. Admission will be waived at the city pool during pool hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Kanawha City Community Center, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, and the North Charleston Community Center will be open between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Friday as well as from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Roosevelt Neighborhood Center will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday.

The Nitro Fire Department on 20th Street will serve as a cooling station starting at noon and staying open through Saturday evening. A specific closing time was not available.

City pools in Charleston will also be open and free of charge, except for the Kanawha City Community Center pool which will be closed Sunday due to a scheduled AEP power outage.

Nitro's city pool will be open with free admission Friday and Saturday.
