Country Club destroyed by fire in Madison

MADISON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A popular place for weddings and special events was destroyed by fire Tuesday night in Boone County.

Madison Fire Department Capt. Joey Linville says a cause of the fire at the Riverview Country Club has not been determined. He said that they didn't find anything suspicious.

No injuries were reported.

Linville said when crews arrived on the scene, the wooden building was completely ablaze. To get to the building, you must cross a bridge. Crews decided not to cross the bridge in their trucks because of its age, so they pulled the hoses across and hook up to the fire hydrant on the property.

According to co-owner Dianna Boggs, the building has been there since 1975. She says they will work to get the building back into operation. She adds that the golf course, that has been in operation since 1964, will remain open.

Boggs says they might shut down for a few days to clean up and regroup, but they are hoping to reopen in time for the weekend.

During a telephone interview Wednesday night, Boggs said that they've received tremendous support from the community and she wants to "thank all the first responders and firefighters and everybody who helped."
