MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A creepy clown sighting has been reported in southern West Virginia.

Someone dressed in what appears to be a clown outfit was photographed alongside the road at night in Duhring, West Virginia. That’s in Mercer County.

The photo is making its way around social media, with hundreds of views. The sheriff's department is saying enough clowning around, though.

If it’s a joke, the person is putting his or her self at danger – not to mention creeping many people out, deputies say.

This comes after several random clown sightings in rural parts of South Carolina where there have been reports of them trying to lure children to remote area.

Deputies are trying to determine where the picture originated.
