UPDATE | Deputies make arrest in Gallia County shooting

GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 7/12/19 @ 1 p.m.
Deputies arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting in Gallia County.

Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting in the Village of Crown City according to Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin.

Zachariah Jones, 34, of Crown City, is charged with felonious assault.

The shooting happened Monday, July 8 at the victim's home in the 80 block of Second Street in the village of Crown City.

Deputies say the victim is Michael Miller, 44. Gallia County EMS took him to a trauma center in Huntington.

Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin tells WSAZ Miller is still in the hospital Friday. His condition is unknown.

Gallia County Sheriff Matt Champlin says a shooting suspect is still in custody and that his office is consulting with the prosecutor's office regarding charges.

A neighbor in the area, Rhonda McDonald of Crown City, says it is possible that the shooting could have been in self-defense and that violence is out of character for the suspect.

"He's quiet," McDonald said. "He stays to himself. He don't like trouble. That's why this is just so shocking. (He's) a good kid. He's not somebody that's out here in trouble all the time."

Deputies in Gallia County are investigating a shooting.

It happened early Monday morning in the village of Crown City according to Sheriff Matt Champlin.

The sheriff's office received a call just after 3 a.m. about a shooting. The victim walked to a neighbor's home after being shot.

Deputies say the victim is Michael Miller, 44, of Crown City. Gallia County EMS took him to a trauma center in Huntington.

"Through our investigation, we have determined that the gunshot wound was the result of a domestic related situation at the home where the victim resides," Champlin stated in a press release. "At this time, one male has been taken into custody."

The man in custody has not been charged yet. The sheriff's office will consult with Prosecuting Attorney Jason Holdren's Office about charges.
