UPDATE 5/30/17 @ 5:45 p.m.

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- WSAZ has learned the names of two people killed in a motorcycle accident Tuesday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police say James Adams, 42, and Priscilla Hogston, 41, both from Louisa, died in the accident.

The accident happened Tuesday afternoon near the Marathon Oil Refinery in Catlettsburg.

The coroner says, based on witness reports, the motorcycle lost control approaching a traffic light and struck the rear of a pickup truck.

Neither victim was wearing a helmet.

Boyd County Coroner Mark Hammond says heading into the summer months, more people will be out on their motorcycles, and this accident was a tragic reminder of how important it is to wear safety gear.

"That's the big thing we want to get out is that helmets do save lives," Hammond said. "A lot of people don't like to wear helmets while they're riding, but they do save lives, and that's the most important thing."

The coroner says the victims' bodies will be sent to Frankfort Wednesday morning for autopsies.
