FRANKFORT, Ky. (WSAZ) – UPDATE 12/10/19 @ 6:05 a.m..

Gov. Andy Beshear was sworn in at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. The public ceremony is at 2 p.m., with several events leading up to that.

In a private ceremony at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Democrat Andy Beshear became Kentucky's 63rd governor.

Governor Beshear’s family and Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman and her family attended the ceremony.

Beshear said, "I am humbled that Kentucky has placed this duty, this honor, that it has trusted me. I'm humbled that the people of Kentucky trust me to move our families forward."

Beshear and Coleman have a busy day with several events before the public swearing in on the capitol steps Tuesday afternoon.

It starts with a breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by a prayer service.

The traditional parade goes through downtown Frankfort at 10 a.m.

The teachers of the Commonwealth are the grand marshal of the parade.

Beshear follows in the footsteps of his father, Steve Beshear, whose two terms as governor preceded the one four-year term of Republican Matt Bevin.

Beshear beat Bevin last month after the republican battled with teachers and state workers over their pensions.

In his final tweet as governor Monday, Bevin said, "Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Kentucky is truly the most spectacular state in America. Our best days are still ahead, because #WeAreKY."

Tuesday's public swearing in will be held at 2 p.m Tuesday.

Two inaugural balls will be held Tuesday night.

WSAZ has a crew in Frankfort for the Inauguration Day ceremony and festivities and will have live reports on-air and online.
