UPDATE: Man has bond reduction request denied by judge

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man facing charges after deputies say he broke into his neighbor's home after throwing a brick through the living room window had a bond reduction request denied Friday.

Christopher Evans-Sayre is charged with burglary and destruction of property.

Judge Joseph Reeder denied a motion from Evans-Sayre to lower his $50,000 cash only bond.

He also denied a motion by the state to raise the bond to $75,000 cash only bond.

The homeowner told deputies that Evans-Sayre had broken into his home and smashed their window with a brick.

In the process of the break-in, the homeowner fell while carrying a pistol and shot himself in the leg. He then fired off two shots in the direction of the suspect, according to deputies.

Deputies say Evans-Sayre told them he had taken meth two hours before the break-in.

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is facing charges after deputies say he broke into his neighbor's home after throwing a brick through the living room window.

Christopher Evans-Sayre, 25, is charged with burglary and destruction of property.

Deputies responded to the call on Fir Street in Eleanor early Sunday morning.

The homeowner told deputies that Evans-Sayre had broken into his home and smashed their window with a brick.

In the process of the break-in, the homeowner fell while carrying a pistol and shot himself in the leg. He then fired off two shots in the direction of the suspect, according to deputies.

The man's wife tells WSAZ that he was hospitalized but is expected to be OK.

Deputies say Evans-Sayre told them he had taken meth two hours before the break-in.

"In 99 percent of the crimes committed somebody is under the influence of alcohol or drugs," Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese said. "In this case, I'm just glad nobody was seriously injured," he added.

Evans-Sayre lives across the street from the home he allegedly broke into.

He is being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

According to a criminal complaint, about 4 a.m. on Sunday deputies responded to a burglary call on Fir Street in Eleanor.

The homeowner told deputies that Evans-Sayre had broken into his home.

In the process of the break-in, the homeowner fell while carrying a pistol and shot himself in the leg. He then fired off two shots in the direction of the suspect, according to deputies.

According to the complaint, the living room window was broken and a brick was lying on the living room floor. The front storm door glass was also shattered.

Deputies say Evans-Sayre told them he had taken meth two hours before the break-in.

Evans-Sayre is being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash only bond.
