UPDATE: Human remains found at fire scene in Wayne County

FORT GAY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 2/8/19 @ 9:45 p.m.
A person died Friday afternoon in a mobile home fire in the Fort Gay area, West Virginia State Police say.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. on Lost Creek Road.

A neighbor driving by saw heavy smoke coming from the mobile home. They yelled, and there was no response from inside.

The mobile home was engulfed when crews from Kermit and Fort Gay volunteer fire department arrived at the scene.

The person’s name hasn’t been released at this point.

The state Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating to determine the cause.

Human remains have been found within fire debris at a home on Lost Creek Road in the Wayne County Community of Fort Gay.

That is according to Chief Fire Investigator for the West Virginia State Fire Marshal Jason Baltic who tells WSAZ crews are currently on the scene investigating.

WSAZ is working to learn more about the fire and has a crew headed to the scene.
