A man has been charged with murder after a shooting Tuesday morning outside a Huntington gas station.

Antwon Starkey, 30, of Huntington, is charged with the murder of Kafredrick McEachin.

According to the criminal complaint, Starkey chased the man across the lot of a gas station in the area of Charleston Avenue and Hal Greer Boulevard (16th Street).

Starkey is being held in the Western Regional Jail without bond.

There was a large law enforcement presence at the scene. It was all hands on deck with the Huntington Police Detective Bureau, West Virginia State Police, the Cabell County Sheriff's Department, and Marshall University Police assisting in the investigation.

Huntington Police Capt. Hank Dial commended the teamwork between agencies.

"Our resources are stressed as you guys know," Dial said. "It was amazing teamwork. I can't say enough for the response we got from the state police. Agencies around us, they know we're in a difficult situation right now. They know how worn down our police department is and how thinly we're stretched."

Emotion overflowed at the shooting scene as loved ones and members of the public consoled each other and confronted the police for answers.

"This is an emotional thing for officers and citizens alike," Dial said. "It was a homicide. Someone in our community was murdered and the arrest was made. There's a lot of aspects to that. We have to care for the community and we also have to catch the bad guy. I think we've done fairly well doing both of those today."
