Huntington street designated as 'Chad Pennington Way'
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Chad Pennington, one of Marshall University’s best quarterbacks in history, will be a part of Huntington forever.
That’s after Huntington City Council on Monday approved a resolution to name part of 10th Street from Veterans Memorial Boulevard as Chad Pennington Way. It’s the stretch downtown that connects Harris Riverfront Park with Ritter Park.
Council members explained it’s happening because Pennington is such a positive role model for the community.
“The reason that the name of the street will be called the Chad Pennington Way, we would like people to emulate Chad and do things in their life the Chad Pennington way,” Councilman David Ball said. “He's done it properly, we're very proud of Chad.”
Pennington led the Thundering Herd to their first undefeated season in 1999, wearing the No. 10 jersey when they finished as the 10th ranked team in the nation. He also played 11 years in the NFL – eight with the New York Jets and three with the Miami Dolphins.
