UPDATE: I-64 West reopens in Carter County

CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- UPDATE 10/23/17 @10:54 p.m.
All lanes of I-64 have reopened in Carter County after a tanker truck overturned in the Westbound lanes Monday afternoon.

The eastbound lanes of I-64 have reopened in Carter County after a tanker truck overturned in the westbound lanes Monday afternoon.

I-64 West at the 179 mile marker remain closed at this time.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the lanes could reopen by 7:30 Monday night.

Lane closures could also last into the night for cleanup.

All I-64 west traffic remains detoured at Exit 181 via US 60 through Grayson.

I-64 is shut down in both directions between Grayson and Boyd County after a tanker truck overturned.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, all I-64 traffic is being detoured along US 60 from exit 181 at Coalton and exit 172 at Grayson.

The KYTC says I-64 could be closed for several hours.

Drivers using the US 60 detour route between Grayson and Boyd County should expect heavy traffic, congestion and lengthy delays.

Local drivers are encouraged to avoid the detour route as well as Exit 172 and Exit 181, and seek alternate routes if possible.

Carter County Sheriff Jeff May says the driver of the tanker truck was taken to the hospital.
