LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – UPDATE 1/15/20 @ 3:50 p.m.
Students in Lawrence County, Kentucky, will remain out of school until Tuesday, Jan. 21, the school system said Wednesday.
Classes were canceled Wednesday due to widespread illness. Thursday and Friday will be Professional Development (PD) days for staff, and Monday is the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
School officials say they had less than 60% attendance by the end of school on Tuesday. They also report that attendance was dropping district-wide, with one elementary school especially hard hit.
"We are doing multiple rounds on disinfecting with a focus at this particular elementary school," the county superintendent tweeted Wednesday. "We are consulting with our cleaning supplies company on additional processes and products for cleaning/sanitizing this and other schools."
