UPDATE 1/24/17 @ 4:25 p.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The lockdown at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex was lifted Tuesday, following the killing of an inmate who was serving time for sexually abusing two teenage boys in the late 1990s.

That information was released Tuesday afternoon by Lawrence Messina, director of communications with the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety.

Messina also said that West Virginia State Police plan to turn over their investigative findings to a grand jury.

Killed in Sunday's attack was Eugene Robert Anderson, 66, a former professor at Marietta College in Ohio. It happened in an outdoor recreation area at the maximum-security prison.

UPDATE 1/23/17 @ 11:55 a.m.
FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An inmate killed at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex was a man sentenced to at least 60 years after pleading guilty to sexually abusing two boys in the late 1990s.

Lawrence Messina, the Director of Communications with the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, says Eugene Robert Anderson, 66, was fatally injured. It happened around 6 p.m. on Sunday in an outdoor recreation area.

Messina says the facility was immediately placed on lock down and remains on lock down as of Monday morning.

Anderson pleaded guilty back in December of 2015 in Kanawha County Circuit Court to 10 sexual abuse counts and eight counts of third-degree assault.

Judge Tod Kaufman agreed to Anderson's request for a maximum sentence. The sentence was running consecutive to lengthy sentences Anderson received in child pornography cases in West Virginia and Ohio more than a decade ago.

While imprisoned in West Virginia, Anderson confessed to a state police trooper that he sexually abused a 13-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy. He told Kaufman that these victims hadn't received justice.

Anderson was a former Marietta College professor. His minimum discharge date was 2148, according to Messina.

West Virginia State Police is investigating the incident.
