UPDATE | Inmate who escaped from deputies captured

JACKSON, Ohio (WSAZ) — UPDATE 1/20/20 @ 5:15 p.m.
Police say 33-year-old Brittany D. Thompson of Jackson was apprehended in Pike County by United States Marshal Services SOFAST Task Force on Sunday.

Two other males, Mark Collins and Matt Overly have also been arrested.

Sheriff Tedd Frazier tells WSAZ, Thompson was awaiting transport to a facility that houses female inmates, when she used a hairpin to free herself from the leg shackles. She then took off out the front door.

Witnesses say she started running. Video surveillance shows Thompson at Tobacco Unlimited on Broadway Street using a phone.

She tossed her shirt near a residence on Water Street which was later found by a K9 and turned her jail issued pants inside out.

She convinced a stranger that her husband assaulted her and she needed a ride to the gas station on McCarty Lane, where her ex-boyfriend Mark Collins picked her up.

The 51-year-old Jackson man has been charged with aiding in her escape, a felony.

He admits to police that he took her and her boyfriend Matt Overly to a residence in Pike County.

Overly was taken into custody for a parole violation and is incarcerated in Ross County.

Police captured Brittany Thompson Sunday from the back seat of a vehicle on Buchanan Road in Pike County.

Her initial arrest was for failure to appear and drug trafficking charges.
She will now also be charged with felony escape.

UPDATE 1/19/20 @ 5:05 p.m.
An inmate who ran from Jackson County, Ohio deputies Saturday is back in custody.

Sheriff Tedd Frazier says Britney Thompson was arrested in Pike County, Ohio Sunday afternoon.

Deputies say Thompson broke free of her shackles and took off out the front door of the sheriff's office Saturday after she was arrested on drug charges.

Sheriff Frazier says more details about the escape will be released Monday.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are currently seeking the whereabouts of inmate Brittany D. Thompson.

Deputies say Thompson broke free of her shackles and ran through the front door of the Sheriff’s Office in Jackson just before 2 Saturday afternoon after deputies brought her into custody on drug related charges.

Thompson was last seen wearing a black sports bra and white and black striped jail issued pants.

She has brown hair, hazel eyes. She is 5’8” and weighs 115 pounds.

Deputies are encouraging Thompson to turn herself in at this time.
