UPDATE 2/15/16 @ 9:55 p.m.

NITRO, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A shooting that sent one person to the hospital Monday night doesn't appear to have stemmed from a home invasion, Nitro Police say.

It happened just after 8 p.m. along Moriah Drive.

Police say a vehicle speeding down Moriah Drive turned into a driveway, hitting a vehicle parked there.

The homeowner came out to check on things and was hit by one of the suspect's hands, causing the altercation to escalate.

Both eventually ended up on the ground, and the homeowner fired twice -- the second shot hitting the suspect.

The suspect is undergoing surgery for injuries, which are said not to be life-threatening.

There's no word on any charges at this time.
