UPDATE | Man pleads not guilty to murder in Kanawha County

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man charged with murder entered a not guilty plea Tuesday.

Gerard Maxwell, who was 32 when the incident happened Jan. 15, is accused of shooting and killing Marian Chapman in Rand, West Virginia.

Investigators say there was a fight inside the home that continued into the front yard where the shooting happened.

Maxwell's trial is set to begin Dec. 9.

A man wanted in connection with a murder that happened earlier this year in eastern Kanawha County has been arrested .

According to a post on the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page, Gerard Malcolm Maxwell, 32, of Rand, was arrested overnight near Georgia.

No details are being released at this time, but more are expected in the coming days, according to the post.

Maxwell is accused of shooting and killing Marian Janyne Chapman, 27, of South Charleston. The incident happened Jan. 15.

Investigators say there was a fight inside the home that continued into the front yard. Other people were inside the home at the time.

UPDATE 1/16/19 @ 11:43 a.m.
Deputies are searching for a suspect in connection with a deadly shooting in Rand, West Virginia.

The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office has a warrant out for Gerard Malcolm Maxwell, 32, of Rand. He is charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators say Maxwell is considered armed and dangerous. In fact, they say he should be considered extremely dangerous.

Deputies also identified the victim as Marian Janyne Chapman, 27, of South Charleston. The victim and suspect knew each other, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers responded to the Rand area around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies found Chapman with several gunshot wounds at a home on Clemson Avenue. Chapman was shot on the front porch.

Investigators say there was a fight inside the home that continued into the front yard. Other people were inside the home at the time.

Deputies are still investigating the motive for the shooting.

The Cedar Grove Police Department found the suspect's vehicle Tuesday night.

Maxwell was also involved in a shooting back in 2015 in Rand. Investigators say 80 gunshots were fired in that case. Deputies say Maxwell was originally charged with murder in that case, but ended up serving three years behind bars on an involuntary manslaughter charge.

A woman shot Tuesday evening in Rand has died, the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department says.

The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. along Clemson Avenue.

Afterward, deputies were looking for a white SUV that took off. It isn't clear if the people inside that SUV were directly involved.

Other details, including the woman's name, haven't been released at this time.

Kanawha County Sheriff's deputies say a woman was shot at least once Tuesday night at a home in the community of Rand.

The incident happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Clemson Avenue.

The extent of the victim's injuries is unknown at this time.

Currently, deputies are looking for a large white SUV that took off from the area after the incident.

It is not clear at this time if the people in the vehicle were directly involved.

One person was injured Tuesday in what was reported as a shooting incident in the eastern Kanawha County community of Rand.

It was reported just before 6:30 Tuesday evening on Clemson Drive.

According to Metro 911 dispatchers, one person was taken to the hospital.

Dispatchers did not have any information about arrests or a suspect in the case.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene investigating.
