UPDATE 7/24/19 @ 4:10 p.m.

A man facing murder charges in the death of his grandfather-in-law has been indicted on additional charges of soliciting to murder a Kentucky State Police trooper and a detective, as well as a witness in the case, according to KSP.

Matthew Kelley, 29, of Grayson, faces two counts of solicitation of murder involving a police officer and one count of solicitation of murder. He was indicted last month by a Carter County grand jury.

According to KSP, detectives received a tip in April about a person soliciting murder.

Kelley was taken to the Carter County Detention Center at that time.

UPDATE 10/7/18 @ 7:15 p.m.

Officials are investigating the murder of an 81-year-old man in Carter County on Sunday.

Kentucky State Police say it happened just before 2 a.m. Sunday on Rocky Lane close to the Grahn community.

After an initial investigation, troopers say Bradley Duncan, 81, was shot and killed by his grandson-in-law, 28-year-old Matthew Kelley. Troopers say it happened after a verbal altercation at Duncan's home.

Duncan's granddaughter Jade Fitchpatrick said, "Nothing in this world could cause that man to deserve what he got."

Now, Duncan's family is trying to stay united and remember Duncan for the positive life he lived.

Fitchpatrick said, "He was a really really great person and I can't believe something like this happened to him."

Fitchpatrick and her sister Kaula Stamper were filled with anger after learning about what their brother-in-law did to their grandfather. "i don't want him to feel what we're feeling, but I want him to understand what he did," Fitchpatrick said.

However, they refuse to let the incident separate their family.

"I want it to stay together for him and I know that's what he would want, I know for a fact he would not want us to be mad at each other he would not want us to ignore each other he would just want us to be a family," Fitchpatrick said.

Troopers arrested Kelley on murder charges.

An investigation is still underway.
