Man from Portsmouth facing felony theft and drug charges

SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man from Portsmouth is facing several theft and drug charges.

Jim Edwin Smith, 41, is charged with three counts of grand theft auto, three counts of receiving stolen property, one count of trafficking in heroin, and one count of possession of heroin. All of the charges are felonies.

During the investigation, officers found two stolen ATVs and a stolen riding mower.

A grand jury indicted Smith. Then detectives with the Scioto County Sheriff's Office and the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force arrested the suspect just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Smith is in the Scioto County Jail without bond. He will be arraigned in Scioto County Common Pleas Court.
